A LOOK BACK AT
OUR FIRST YEAR
VILLA DE LEYVA AND CARTAGENA, 2019
2019 was a banner year for Colombianimals (formerly known as HOLA “Humane Outreach for Latin Animals”). It was the year we started our small non-profit, recruited a group of Canadian and American volunteers, raised $12,000 and sterilized over 500 dogs and cats.
We started the year with an unofficial two-day sterilization campaign in the colonial town of Villa de Leyva, about 3 hours northeast of Bogotá, Colombia’s capital. That campaign was the catalyst for the birth of the organization.
Leveraging this momentum, we got busy planning our first official sterilization campaign in Cartagena, one of Colombia’s most popular destinations. 7 North American volunteers signed up for Colombianimal’s inaugural campaign, helping sterilize 405 dogs and cats over 4 days and providing wellness treatments for over 300 pets!
We thank the first round of volunteers who believed in our mission and embarked on this adventure with us! Thank you, Amy, Amalie, Julie-Anne, Rebecca, Tanya, Jocely and Ariela, for helping launch our grand adventure!
